Amateur Radio HAMs, get a 10 Meter QRP NET on the air FAST and SIMPLE with these self contained low-power transmitters. Price is for (3) oscillators.
These are precision crystal controlled clock oscillators in a SMD style package. The nominal 28.321 MHz frequency falls nicely in the 10 Meter Novice / Technician HAM band segment (28.000 to 28.500 MHz) and can be used by all HAMs with HF privileges. The output is an approximately 4.5 Vp-p TTL compatible signal. We don’t have the equipment to measure the power precisely, but doing the math, we estimate 35 ~ 45 mW into a 50 Ohm load.
Note: The TTL output produces low level harmonics that may produce interference in nearby receivers. A simple Low Pass Filter –

– will suppress harmonic radiation should it be necessary. TV channel 2 is the second harmonic. We sell the inductors elsewhere in our listings. We do not stock the capacitors. This listing does NOT include low pass filter parts. This listing is for the oscillators only.
Classroom MORSE CODE Training
Guaranteed fun for all. Use as a training aid to add realism to code practice sessions by actually going on the air to learn real life NET operating skills! Place a single radio in the classroom, and let a handful of kids “call” and communicate with each other using only their CW skills. No talking allowed. Standby for break-ins.
SIMPLICITY – Standard or OE Keying
Simple to wire. Ground pin 2, key +5V to pin 4 and connect your antenna to pin 3 (top view shown below). Can’t get any simpler!
These are SMD devices. The “J” leads can be straighted or bent outward for wiring. They are short and won’t protrude through a standard PCB, but it’s easy to improvise. Add a 0.001µF bypass across pins 2 & 4 to improve oscillator stability. For a few more bells and whistles, read on.
Alternate OE keying uses the “Output Enable” pin 1, shown in the left drawing below. When pin 1 is held low through a 1 K resistor, the output at pin 3 is turned off, but the oscillator is kept running. Keying +5 volts to pin 1 in this configuration is the way to go if you use computer generated morse code.
If your receiver has a product detector or BFO, use these in CW (Carrier) Mode. You can identify different stations by the slight variations in frequency. If you are using an AM-only receiver, you can add a small transformer for AM modulation or a tone generator for MCW operation as shown in the schematic examples below. Choose different values of resistors and capacitors for different tones.
LONG RANGE
Of course range varies widely and experienced QRP’ers know that it’s the Antenna, Antenna, Antenna that is the key. An example: I tested similar 6M and 10M units on the road using only a short wire antenna draped over the car seat. Both carried over 1½ miles to a receiver connected to a roof-level vertical. I imagine these will perform similarly. But the real possibilities come from elevated antennas on both ends, especially beams.
AMPLITUDE MODULATION
AM operation is accomplished by adding a small audio transformer. (Transformers are not included in this listing, but are available in our other listings.)
The design to the right works well with an audio source intended to drive a speaker. Note the reversal of PRI and SEC windings. The impedances are not critical and almost anything close will work.
Easy WIRELESS ALARMS Anywhere
Wire a pressure switch, door, gate, pool level detector, thermostat — anything that can switch 5 Volts. Use 4 AAA batteries and a diode to drop the voltage to about 5.5V. For short distances, an antenna is not needed. A stable receiver or scanner will cover the perimeter of your yard.
Carrier (CW) Mode is the simplest method, but a NE555 oscillator, such as the one shown in the MCW Mode (Modulated CW) schematic above, will modulate the transmitter if you prefer a tone. Different resistors / capacitors will produce different tones to distinguish different monitoring / alarm stations.
Substitute a thermistor for the timing resistor (3.3K at pin 6) to make a simple temperature telemetry transmitter.
Other possibilities:
10M Fox Hunt
Beacon
Telemetry
Model Rocketry (Only 0.9 gm, or 1/30
th
oz.) or helium balloons.
Add a divide by 2 IC* circuit for a 20 Meter HAM band output.
Add a divide by 4 IC* circuit for a 40 Meter HAM band output.
Add a divide by 8 IC* circuit for a 80 Meter HAM band output.
Add a LPF and a small amp on your band of choice for a serious QRP transmitter.
* Note: a 74LS74 or equivalent binary divider is recommended.
160, 80, 40, 20, 6 and other 10 Meter thru-hole PCB versions are available.
Check our other auctions or e-Mail us.
Note: Configurations and applications vary and performance varies. Please review FCC Part 15 and Part 97 if you are uncertain your particular use is in compliance. The suggestions above are not intended to promote illegal or improper use. The amateur is responsible for ensuring FCC compliance and that transmitters do not interfere with other equipment.
